We noticed that the mowing blades are pretty big but there is this gap between them. So wherever the mower goes, it cuts the grass but leaves this strip of untrimmed grass.
We’ll never understand why this is, as most commercial mower blades are staggered so they cover the entire width.
If it wasn’t for these few critical design flaws, this mower would have been a great and affordable option. There are some shortcomings in programming too and limit the amount of control you have over it.
First, you can’t stop or cancel trimming cycles that are already in progress. This could be dangerous, especially if some small objects were to get stuck inside.
Then, you can only set the mower to work daily, once or twice a week and not around the time when you’d like to do some trimming.
You can’t control which areas of the lawn you’d like to mow first. So, suppose it cuts the edges of the yard, it leaves behind a lot of uncut grass along the sideways and leaves it like that.

So it can run automatically according to how you set it. It cuts the grass into the tiniest bits possible and helps to create mulch that disappears gradually back into the lawn putting nutrients back into the soil.
Set up is a simple two-phase process, where it is fully programmable and all you have to do is take the time to lay out the boundary wire. This can be put down on the edges of the lawn, around larger objects so that the ROB 1000 knows where it has to go.
This boundary wire can be pegged just above the lawn surface or below based on what you need. Next comes the programming that shows the ROB 1000 where you decide when it has to mow the lawn.

It is weatherproof and can be used when it is raining, but not when it rains heavily or during lightning and thunderstorms. When mowing is completed or if the battery is low, the mower will automatically redirect itself back into the docking station.
One of the critical features is the auto shut off system, where the blades will stop when the mower is flipped or tilted over, either by pets, kids or smaller obstacles.
Speaking of obstacles, the mower blades are built on a pivoting design that makes the blade move inward should anything get stuck inside it.
Other good features include 24 hours of operation and feeding the lawn with fresh grass cuttings. The ROB 1000 does not leave behind those unsightly patches and wheel tracks.
This is because it can adapt different surfaces and cuts grass in a way that there’s little chance of uneven track lines. Instead of using the boundary wire to head back to the station, the ROB 1000 relies on a guidewire.

Husqvarna is known for giving you exceptional products that ultimately lead to that dream yard. We’ve seen that with the Auto Mower 310, is the 220 AC the same? The brand does offer everything from chainsaws, trimmers, lawnmowers, ride-on mowers and now the 220 AC.
This best robotic lawn mower has a much higher capacity, to begin with. It can also manage automatic charging, mowing and is meant to be used in areas that are a maximum of 1/2 acre.
When the battery is depleted, the mower goes back to charge itself and then carries on mowing. On the underside, you have three razor-sharp cutting blades that make these short clippings, letting them fall to the ground and fertilizing the yard.
This mowing alternative doesn’t have a bad impact on the environment and won’t produce emissions, noise all while consuming very little energy.
The boundary wire is super thin and is practically invisible when staked into the yard, but the mower will still be able to sense it and stay inside the perimeter.
The 220 AC is weather-resistant, so you can use it at any time during the year – the company even claims that it can withstand very harsh seasons, but we still have to test out this theory.
It can function properly regardless of the kind of weather conditions. If it does fall or get tipped over, the cutting mechanism shuts off immediately. And if it simply bumps into any obstacles, the mower will stop and redirect itself in another direction.
The 220 AC is the mower for people who wish to lower their impact on the earth, maintain their lawn around the clock and spent as little as possible doing so.
We did have to spend several hours, possibly eight to ten, and a couple of evenings for setting up the perimeter wire. Within a week that boundary line vanished into the lawn, but the mower still managed to sense it and work beautifully.
And yes, it even runs perfectly in the rain, at night without issues or falling or slipping over. It is also really quiet too.
The secret is to really take as much time setting up the boundary wires and then doing a test run. Particularly in the areas where you have put the stakes into the ground. As for those stakes, we found that it’s better to drill them well in the soil, but not completely though.

Then you push all the stakes into the ground completely. The idea of the trial run this way is to make it easier to alter the layout, pull reset stakes accordingly. Then you should have no issues with wire getting stuck on your pet’s food, weed trimmers or even the mower itself.
Now the programming is only complex because you have loads of options. For example, you can set the mower to go over the side of the yard 20% of the time and over to the back yard say, 65% of the time.
It’s convenient for customizing your needs when you think about it. This works for yards that are under a lot of shade and might not grow that quickly.
The company says that the charging station should be placed in the shade. This could be a problem as not many yards have a dedicated charging station housing.
You could use a patio umbrella, but that might look silly, especially is you have a bigger lawn and the mower has a long way to go.
The same goes for the transformer too, which requires a ventilated place. You’ll have to be a bit creative here, or deal with mechanical issues later on.
Make sure that you use your old, regular mower to trim the lawn and bag the clippings before using the 220 AC for the first time. If you don’t, the mower will work a little slower than it’s usual speed.
Then, we noticed that it stopped a few times, once when it rained and couldn’t get a good footing on the wet ground. Next, when it sensed a lawn décor item – it tipped over and kept running but the blades had stopped.
6. Intelligent Lawn Mower Auto Grass Cutter by HJJH
The first best feature is the programmable mowing function that can be preset for any time between 24 hours and a week. It goes out to mow, stops and returns to the charging stand automatically.
This mower isn’t weather resistant but does come with a rain sensor. It only takes a few seconds to detect rain, ends the mowing cycle and goes back to the docking station. Then, it comes out only on the next scheduled cycle.
One of the features it has is a Start Function alarm that beeps three times before it begins mowing, when it doesn’t detect the boundary line or can’t make its way to the charging station.
And there are other alarms too, to inform you about the malfunctions like collision detection, falls or tipping over, over 30-degree slope climb, obstacle slow down – so you, always know what kind of function or problem is taking place.
The theft prevention mechanism is a password and will not operate without it being entered. Tough luck to anyone who tries stealing it. Unfortunately, there’s no tracker – so once it’s gone, you may not see it again.
One excellent feature is the remote control, so you can decide where it goes, switch the mower between the auto and manual control modes.

Precise customizability is the best part of the HJJH Intelligent Lawn Mower. This makes it much easier to schedule when you want to mow the lawn, and you won’t have all too much wear and tear.
HJJH has added the rain sensor that automatically drives the mower back to the docking point. This saves you the hassle of needing to run out and put it back yourself, should it start raining.
Another interesting and useful feature is password-protected, but this should have had some kind of tracking system as well.
We feel that you should get this one if you’re keen on scheduling mowing cycles around your busy routine, and don’t want to bother too much with any lawn trimming work.

4 Ocean says that their Robotic Lawn Mower can be scheduled, so you can set up a convenient working time at any hours of the day.
Just like the HJJH Intelligent Lawn Mower, it too can suspend operation when it senses high humidity or rain and gets back to the station.
It also features what’s called a bump sensor, which will only come on when it runs into any fixed, solid objects in any direction.
When this is activated, the mower will stop right away, back up and move away from that object. In terms of security, you have a password system, that you can use to guard the mower against theft, but there is no mention of whether there’s a tracking control.
You can see all settings, cycle times, cycle durations, battery status clearly on the LCD display screen on the mower. This also features an Emergency Stop, so you don’t have to wait for the mower to complete any cycle before putting it away.

As with all lawn mowers, you need to install boundary lines, but you get very little help with that. This initial step might take you some time before you get the hang of it.
One convenience that you do have is the remote control. But with this, the mower moves in a straight back and forth path, so you may get those unsightly track marks around your lawn.
The wheels do have a nice rough texture to them but honestly, they do feel a bit plasticky. There seems to be very little space between the cutting blades.
So this reduces the cutting swath and means that the mower has to spend even more time to cover your entire lawn. We’re not sure what this will do to the battery.
In this sense, we recommend this mower for small yards. As for the LCD screen, it is hidden under a movable cover that you have to close properly.
This could mean that the screen isn’t waterproof which could be a bad thing, seeing how that’s where all the controls lie!! As for the price, this mower is more on the affordable side, but you will be missing out on features that some of the other pricy mowers have.

So what are the kinds of benefits you have here? One is the faster mowing time with the wider cutting swath. The cutting system is a whole lot stronger, so you have additional cutting heights to choose from.
Something that Robomow claims sets their RS 630 apart from its competitors and give you a much flawless finish.
You can even toss out that irritating string trimmer because the Robomow 630 has an edging mode too. And there’s plenty more top of the range specification and features hidden away. The RS 630 from Robomow promises to be a heavy-duty, super equipped and mean cutting machine.
The speed of the cut and the floating deck are the best things about the RS630, leaving behind a super smooth cut that will rival any golf course!
We love how it manages to avoid objects smoothly and nicely – even cutting the areas around trees without the need for extra boundary wires.
You do have to be careful about some landscape objects, especially when its in the edging mode, but you have the wires for this.
We would like the edging to be a bit closer so in some cases, you might have to recheck the smooth, wide turn cutting mode to avoid that ‘Out of Bounds’ issue.
The mower is equipped with some of the best chip technology we’ve seen so far and can pick up the entire lawn pattern or layout very quickly. You will never have to deal with sections that have been missed or uncut.

The turbo mode was a surprise. The RS630 is smart enough to inform you, through the GSM module, about issues that the device might have, even if you are miles away.
It communicates using Bluetooth, to an app installed on your smartphone. So, if at any time, you notice it standing still or acting funny, simply check your phone – it is that simple.
In some cases, the mower might come to a standstill if it hits an obstacle or boundary wire. Correcting this is as easy as controlling it out of that situation using the app, and then it carries on with the cycle. You can even send it back to the charging dock.
We do suggest keeping a watch on the Bluetooth signal because the further away the mower is, the worse it gets. Another important tip is to allow the battery cell to complete balancing, this way the mow cycle run time will be perfect.

The Landroid from Worx is another affordable robotic mower that you allows you to plan out mowing schedules easily. In contrast to standard mowers that cut off chunks of the grass on a much less frequent basis, the Landroid trims the grass regularly. So its actually doing less this way and saves energy.
If you own a yard that falls under 10750 square feet and wants to keep it looking great every time, then the Worx Landroid is for you.
Among the features that it does have, the Landroid can manage to move through or around narrow passages beautifully, even cutting on sloping surfaces, as long as it’s not more than 20 degrees.
So much for precision, now comes the technology starting with the intuitive keypad. This is what you use to customize the mowing patterns, according to the size of the lawn, mowing times, etc.
And with a super silent motor, you can run this thing at night as well. Finally, the mower works on a rechargeable 28V battery.
On the inside, there are two brushless motors that enable the Landroid to cut smoothly even on rough terrain, climb inclines or declines of a maximum of 20 degrees. Or cut grass of any thickness, length, and size.
In case of battery depletion or rains, the Landroid heads back to the charging dock on its own and will only carry on mowing when it’s fully dry, or charged as the case may be.
The Landroid is ready for use right out of the box that also includes installation kit, manual guides, wires, etc.
If you want a small lawnmower and your choices were to shell $500 for a standard non-motorized mower or go all out to spend $970 robotic one, we’d suggest that you put caution to the wind and go for this second option, especially if you love technology.
At first, we thought that it might take all summer to set it up after opening the box, but the Landroid was up and running within 4 hours and has been working like a dream since.
It might seem like a hefty price tag at first, but you save on the regular 3000 to 4000 dollar a year lawn mowing services. The mower is built very well too, so you won’t have to deal with servicing bills either. Financial woes aside, you also save loads of time with the Landroid.
At best, you may have to spend fifteen to twenty minutes trimming the edges of the lawn. We do feel that the Landroid has a few hits and misses.
To begin with, the boundary wire is easy to set up and takes less time if you stick with the instructions! Next, the 28V battery might appear underpowered but the sensor on this mower is excellent and pushes it to return back to base before the cell runs out completely.

Verdict
One good thing about the way it works is that it runs daily, trimming just a little off now and then. When it runs this way, you will not see clippings all over the lawn, driveway or sidewalks that you’ll need to spend hours clearing off.
None of those clippings will clog the mower either. It’s quiet too; in fact, we sometimes forget that it was even running out here on our test lawn!
So much for the good stuff, now for the not so great stuff. First is, that when laying down the boundary wire with the pegs, you might run into line breaks.
According to the setup guide is given, the boundary line has to be covered completely after you get the positioning right. So, it looks like you may need to invest loads of time before getting this step right.
They’ve also provided a measuring ruler to help you get the distance between the boundary wire and your lawn edge right. This thing is anything but accurate and that’s its better spending those four hours, moving around the lawn with the wire instead.
The mower does tend to get stuck, very rarely but you don’t have an app or feature to alert you when it does. The Landroid may not be handled very long grass either, this is something that you’ll have to trim off first before the mower gets to work. Also, the rain sensor isn’t all that powerful and might not be able to pick up very light rain.
We suggest putting the boundary wire as close to the lawn edge as possible and keep some electric tape ready. It’s better to follow all the instructions carefully, but we found that the Landroid can manage some tight angles (the manual says that the wire should be at angles greater than 90 degrees).
Finally, the mower should able to go over smaller obstacles, stones, and roots that are below the blade height. It is better, however, to do a test run before you begin using it.
One important tip is to make sure that the charger has its waterproof plug and box. The Landroid has tripped off some of the circuits after some heavy rain. Once we had the plugs secured, we didn’t have this problem.

The display is much larger and makes it easy for you to see the status of the mower, even in broad daylight. Changes to the settings, like when you’d like the mower to work, can be done here too or through your smartphone with the help of the Automower Connect compatibility.
